ESTIMATED COSTS

Note: All following figures are rough estimates and do not include VAT

DESIGN FEES:
DESIGNER HOURLY FEE:
- starting from ........................ EUR 50.00 / hour

COSTS OF STOCK PLANS:
- Approx. 2-3 % of the cost of a professionally built yacht.
- Alterations to stock plans: designer hourly fee (see above).

COSTS OF CUSTOM PLANS:
In the range of LoA = 40 ft: approx. 5-7 % of the cost of a professionally built yacht , depending on the scope of documentation. Larger Yachts: lower percentage; smaller yachts: higher percentage.

EMPTY ALUMINIUM SHELLS:
COSTS OF EMPTY ALUMINIUM SHELLS ( hull, deck, keel, rudder):
Prices per kg of shell-weight, including labour cost, for round bilge yachts in the range of 40-50 ft:

- starting from ........................ EUR 29.00 / kg

Approx. weight of standard Aluminium shells in cruising execution (for shells without deck take approx. 75 % of the following figures):

- 30 ft yacht ......................... 1600 kg
- 35 ft yacht ......................... 2000 kg
- 40 ft yacht ......................... 2500 kg
- 45 ft yacht ......................... 3200 kg
- 50 ft yacht ......................... 4000 kg
- 55 ft yacht ......................... 4900 kg
- 60 ft yacht ......................... 6300 kg

Example: 40 ft yacht, cost of Aluminium shell at EUR 29,-/kg: 2500x29 = EUR 72.500.-

EMPTY SANDWICH SHELLS:
COSTS OF HULLS OF SPEEDSTRIP SANDWICH CONSTRUCTION WITH PLYWOOD DECKS:
Cost for professionally built shells with this building method is higher than with Aluminium, however, it will save you all the interior lining and insulation necessary with Aluminium shells and make a very cosy accomodation. Moreover, fairing the hull is normally included in the price as opposed to Aluminium shells, where fairing is an extra item.
The big attraction of this building method is the ease of construction (as opposed to Aluminium shells) which makes it suitable for skilled amateur builders, with consequently large savings.

MATERIALS FOR FITTING OUT:
COSTS OF BASIC EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS (engine, rig, sails, fittings; wood for the interior, glue, paint, etc.):
Again as a rough guide, you are looking at EUR 10.000,- per ton of displacement. Prudent shopping and possibly the use of good second hand equipment may considerably reduce this portion of the total cost.

Example: Cost of basic equipment for a 40 ft Yacht with 10 t displacement: 10xEUR 10.000,- = EUR 100.000.-

LABOUR COSTS FOR FITTING OUT:
Professionally fitting out a 40 ft Aluminium cruising shell with 10 t displacement (woodwork, electrical and sanitary works, engine installation, painting, etc.), without luxuries, should take an average of 2 professionals 30 weeks (i.e. 2100 manhours) at your local labour cost; with sandwich shells, where insulating and covering up the interior surfaces falls away, approx. 10 % less. For larger boats, these manhours would roughly go up proportionally with displacement (and vice versa for smaller boats).
Note: this item represents your saving when you complete the yacht with your own labour.
